Wow. That open-source community is really something! It seems like e few guys are now develloping some sort of opensource Zbrush, "Sharp Construct". I don't exactly know how it performs yet, because I havn't been able to get online from a machine on which i could install software for a while. But as soon as I'm settle in my new apartement (at Coogee, very nice Sydney suburb...) I will get onto it. I'll make sure to right up a quick review on this blog too...
Nevertheless, it looks pretty impressive.
