As I've stated before, the problem with a big company like Autodesk buying out alias and the likes, is that they get to do what Micro$oft and Adobe do! They get to set the prices, release technology when they feel like it and charge ridiculous prices for upgrades, crossgrades, updates, etc... I predicted that, and now look... They decided to stop the support and the renewal of motion builder 5.5 and 6! It's fair enough not to support a release that was made when the company was not in control of it, but refusing to issue a new license to people who have system failures and need to reinstall the product is darn right wrong! They paid for the goddamn software didn't they? It's rightfully theirs to use, anytime they want! The only reason Autodesk is doing that is to force the huge amount of 5.5/6/6.5 license owners to buy their 7.5 release... Why? Because the money thirsty dirtbags haven't directly made profit from the previous releases and are afraid that a fair amount of people are never going to upgrade to 7.5... Why? Because the 7.5 release does not justify the update price for the features it gives...
So there you go... It has begun, Autodesk is doing what apple, M$ and Adobe are doing, forcing people to spend, even if they have spent in past and are pretty content with what they have...
I urge oeveryone to give these fuckers a taste of their own medicine! DO NOT PAY FOR AUTODESK PRODUCTS! There is no point! Supporting a company like Autodesk is not going to help the industry or the technology in any way. Just like competition drives people to break athletics records, competition drives technology, and allowing a corporation to have the monopoly (or close enough) is killing the very thing that will make the new tools we all love to discover at each release of a package.
